Originally from Scotland, Ailsa completed her medical degree at the University of Dundee before training as a GP in Glasgow. Prior to moving to New Zealand, she worked as a Health Inequalities Fellow, contributing to projects and education focused on improving health outcomes for underserved communities.

Ailsa has particular interests in health equity, women’s health, mental health and population health. She is passionate about reducing barriers to healthcare and enjoys the unique opportunity general practice provides to build long-term relationships with patients and support their wellbeing over time. Ailsa values working alongside people to achieve better health outcomes and provide care that is tailored to their individual circumstances.

Outside of work, Ailsa enjoys making the most of New Zealand’s outdoor lifestyle. She loves running, cycling and exploring the beautiful beaches and landscapes around Christchurch.

Working within different communities inspired an interest in how we as GPs can contribute to reducing health inequalities. I enjoy working in general practice because of the varied workload and continuity of care.
