Frequently asked questions

Do I need to switch GPs to use Tend?
No. Several Tend services are open to everyone, no GP switch needed.

That includes Online Now 24/7, same-day medical certificates and free 30-minute mental health video consults.

Available to anyone, anywhere in Aotearoa.
Do I have to download the Tend app to use your services?
No. You can request a same-day medical certificate and manage your Tend account directly via our website, no app needed.

For appointments and other medical services, you'll still need the app. We're working on bringing more to the web, but for the full Tend experience, the app is the way to go.
How much does Tend cost?
The price you pay depends on whether you are enrolled with us, or visiting us as a casual patient.

Enrolled patients enjoy cheaper fees and access to funded medical services. There are also discounts available for children, youth and those with Community Services Cards (CSC).

Our mental health service is free for everyone (casual and enrolled) over 16 years.

See here for a list of enrolled and casual patient fees
How do I pay for my Tend appointment?
Enrolled patients:
If you enrolled with Tend directly, you’ll need to pay for your appointment using a credit or debit card in the Tend app. This is our secure in-app payment method and must be set up before your appointment.

Casual patients:
If you’re visiting as a casual patient (not enrolled), you’ll also need to pay by credit or debit card through the Tend app.

Patients from acquired clinics:
If you were part of a clinic that has recently joined Tend, you may still be able to pay in person using credit/debit card, cash or bank transfer.
What does it mean to enrol with Tend and how do I enrol?
Enrolling means our doctors and nurses become your main contact for your primary healthcare needs. Once enrolled, you enjoy cheaper pricing, and children under 14 years old are free. You can only enrol with one GP practice at a time.

You must be residing permanently in New Zealand to be entitled to enrol. See here for eligibility criteria.

Enrolling via the app takes just five minutes. To get started you just need a smartphone, NZ phone number, email address, debit/credit card and passport/driver’s license/other ID to verify your identity.

We take care of all the paperwork, including transferring your health records from your existing medical practice. Records transfer is a secure electronic process overseen by Te Whatu Ora.

Once enrolled, you will have access to a wider range of Tend benefits, including health checks, screening reminders, and ordering repeats.
