Frequently asked questions

Do I need to enrol with Tend?
No, you do not need to be enrolled with Tend to use some of our services. We welcome casual patients nationwide.

If you do enrol you will enjoy cheaper fees, access to more medical services, app features and other benefits.

Am I eligible to enrol?
You must be living permanently in New Zealand to be entitled to enrol with a primary healthcare provider. The definition of living permanently in NZ is that you intend to be a resident in New Zealand for at least 183 days in the next 12 months.

You will be entitled to enrol if you are a:

- New Zealand citizen and living permanently in New Zealand (this includes people from the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau)

- Resident visa holder of a resident visa or permanent resident visa

- Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident AND able to show you have been in New Zealand or intend to stay in New Zealand for at least 2 consecutive years

- Work visa/permit holder and legally able to be in New Zealand for at least 2 years

- Interim visa holder who was eligible immediately before the interim visa started

- Refugee or protected person

See the full list of enrolment criteria here.
How are my health records transferred?
If you decide to enrol with Tend, we can transfer your health records from your existing GP. You don't have to do anything except give your consent when enrolling in the Tend app.

Records transfer is a secure electronic process overseen by the Ministry of Health. It is your right to give any GP access to your health records.

We recommend consenting the transfer of your records as this gives our clinicians full access to your previous medical history, allowing for a more consistent and thorough healthcare experience and ensuring we can provide you with the best care possible.

Should you decide to enrol with a different GP, we will happily transfer your records to them as requested.
Does my enrolment expire?
Yes. If you haven't seen your GP in over three years, your enrolment will expire, and you’ll lose access to the lower enrolled patient fees.

How to keep your enrolment active:

- Book a routine health check or an appointment for any health concern.

- Schedule an annual health check in the Tend app. Many people find it helpful to book around their birthday as a yearly health WOF.

- We will send you email reminders if your enrolment is about to expire

- If you don’t need an appointment but want to stay enrolled, let our Customer Experience Team know by messaging us in the app or calling your local clinic.
Can I enrol family members?
Yes you can add children under 18 (if you're their parent or guardian) to your account.

Young people aged 16-17 have the option to manage their own healthcare. They can create their own Tend account and enrol themselves without needing to wait until they are 18.

You cannot enrol or book appointments for adults over 18 years, including your partner. Adults must create their own Tend account to enrol or book appointments.
