For Tesa, becoming a doctor was driven by a strong commitment to serving whānau and community. She brings an equity-focused lens to her work, which guides how she practices medicine and allows her to provide care that is respectful, inclusive and grounded in what matters most to patients and their whānau.

Her areas of interest include Māori health, paediatrics, mental health and addiction medicine. Tesa finds her work most rewarding when she sees whānau progress toward their full health potential, whether through meaningful long-term change or the small but important moments, like a patient leaving a consult feeling heard and supported.

Outside of work, Tesa enjoys reading to her four children and being actively involved in their lives. She spends plenty of time supporting their sporting interests - particularly netball, athletics and swimming.

What inspired me to be a doctor is a drive to serve whānau and community has always been a central value of mine. This looks like providing an equitable lens to everything I do, this then allows me to express myself authentically in my mahi and give a high level of service.
