Frequently asked questions

What travel health services does Tend Symonds Street offer?
We help you stay healthy while travelling overseas. This includes travel health consultations before you go, the travel vaccines that you need, malaria prevention tablets and advice tailored to where you're going and what you'll be doing.

We help all types of travellers – whether you're on holiday, travelling for work, backpacking or visiting family overseas.

When should I book my travel health appointment?
Ideally, book your travel consult 6–8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines need more than one dose and take time to become fully effective, but if you’re travelling soon, don’t worry - we can still provide tailored advice and last-minute protection where appropriate.
What travel vaccinations might I need?
This depends on your destination, activities, length of stay and current vaccination status. Common travel vaccinations include Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies.

Our clinicians will provide personalised recommendations based on your specific travel plans.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring: your travel plans (flights, hotels, activities), any old vaccination records if you have them, a list of any medications you take and your passport.
How much do vaccinations cost?
The consultation fee $139 covers your appointment and health advice only. If you need vaccines, these cost extra and are charged per dose. We'll give you clear pricing during your appointment before you decide, so there are no surprises.
Do you provide Yellow Fever vaccinations and International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP)?
Yes! Tend Symonds Street is an official Yellow Fever vaccination centre. This means we can give you the Yellow Fever vaccine and provide the international certificate that many countries require for entry.
Which destinations are considered high-risk for travel?
High-risk areas where you'll likely need extra vaccines or malaria tablets include:

Africa: Most countries in sub-Saharan Africa including Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, and countries in Central and West Africa

Asia: India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, and other parts of Southeast Asia (higher risk for hepatitis, typhoid, Japanese encephalitis, and rabies)

South America: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and surrounding countries

Caribbean: Cuba and Jamaica

Polio areas: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and parts of Central Africa

Your exact needs depend on where you're staying and what you're doing – we'll give you personalised advice at your appointment.
