Enrolled patients
Enrolment is currently available to residents in Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Canterbury. An enrolled patient is someone who has chosen Tend as their primary care provider.
From 1 February 2026, some people with stable, long-term health conditions may be able to receive prescriptions that last longer - up to 12 months. The aim is to make it easier and more affordable to stay on the medicines you need.
Who can get a longer prescription?
Your doctor or prescriber will work with you to decide if a longer prescription is right for you. Not everyone will qualify - it depends on your overall health needs and what’s safe for you.
You may need to see a doctor in-person for a review to determine if this is right for you.
You are more likely to be eligible if your condition or medication have been stable for at least six months, or you don't need regular tests, check-ups or dose adjustments. You will need to talk to your doctor or prescriber to discuss your individual situation.
Dispensing of prescriptions
If you’re eligible for a longer prescription, you'll still get dispensed three months of medicine at a time from the same pharmacy. But you won't need to go back to your doctor for repeat prescriptions during the prescribed period. This means fewer requests for repeat prescriptions, less cost and more convenience for you.
It is important to remember that you need to use the same pharmacy for all your repeats. If your location changes and you wish to pick up your repeats from a different pharmacy, you'll need to acquire a new prescription.
What about controlled medications?
Controlled medicines such as strong pain relievers or ADHD treatments are not eligible for longer prescriptions. Controlled drugs must be prescribed more frequently and are subject to stricter monitoring as they pose higher risk and require regular monitoring.
