In New Zealand, GPs receive government funding for each enrolled patient, which helps lower the cost of appointments for their patients.
- Enrolled patients benefit from cheaper appointments and medical services
- Children under 14 years receive free care if they're enrolled
- You can only be enrolled with one GP at a time.
- You can only enrol with Tend if you live in Auckland, Bay of Plenty or Christchurch
- You can choose to enrol yourself without enrolling your children, or vice versa—it’s up to you.
- Each adult family member needs their own Tend account and must enrol themselves unless you have Power of Attorney for their care
- Visiting a doctor where you're not enrolled results in higher fees as a 'casual' patient
Eligibility
Generally, only NZ citizens or residents can enrol, but anyone can see a doctor as a ‘casual’ patient with Tend (at certain clinics). The full criteria for enrolment can be found here.
